The Association of Latin American Sugar Producers (UNALA) held its Annual General Assembly on Friday, March 14 in Panama City. The event, co-organized with the Sugar and Alcohol Association of Panama (Azucalpa), brought together industry leaders and experts to analyze the main challenges and opportunities facing the sugar agribusiness in the current global context.
During the event, Rodrigo Cardenal, president of Azucalpa, made a presentation on the progress made in the incorporation of ethanol in the country’s fuels.
Agustin Torroba, executive secretary of the Pan-American Coalition for Liquid Biofuels (CPBIO), also spoke on the growth opportunities for ethanol in Latin America, highlighting its key role in the transition towards more sustainable energy sources.
During the Assembly, UNALA formalized the incorporation of two new members: ALUR (Alcoholes de Uruguay) and CAAP (Centro Azucarero y Alcoholero Paraguayo), strengthening the growth and representativeness of the sector. With these two new memberships, UNALA now has members from 15 countries in the region.
UNALA’s General Assembly reaffirmed its role as a strategic space for decision-making and for promoting the competitiveness and sustainability of the sugar agribusiness in Latin America.
