Grupo Calesa, a Panamanian agroindustrial company founded more than 106 years ago, will inaugurate the “Calesa Solar Park” at Hacienda La Estrella, in Natá de los Caballeros, Coclé province, at the end of the year. This state-of-the-art solar park will supply clean and sustainable energy to all of Grupo Calesa’s plant operations, thus contributing to the decarbonization of Panama’s energy matrix.
With an installed capacity of 3.8 MWp and an area of 4.5 hectares, the solar park includes the installation of more than 6,325 600W solar panels designed to capture and convert solar radiation into electricity efficiently and reliably.
Through this solar park, Grupo Calesa will stop emitting 2021 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, which is equivalent to the carbon capture of more than 112,000 mature trees, thus contributing to environmental conservation and the fight against climate change.
“It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the inauguration of this project in collaboration with Celsia, part of Grupo Argos, a trusted partner with an outstanding track record in Panama. At Grupo Calesa, our commitment to the environment, the sustainability of our processes and the future is undeniable. That is why we have been recognized nationally and have invested in cutting-edge projects such as drip irrigation, development of bioproducts, use of biomass and now our own solar farm. We are living in critical times from an environmental perspective, and that is why we assume the responsibility of driving significant changes, adapting to the challenges ahead and maintaining our competitiveness, taking proactive measures with future generations in mind,” said Rodrigo Cardenal, CEO of Grupo Calesa.
Grupo Calesa has made a series of investments to adapt its operations to sustainable practices. As a result, they have been able to generate electricity from sugarcane biomass for three consecutive months. Now, with the addition of this solar farm, they will guarantee the use of renewable energy for the production of their products throughout the year. This development will have a positive impact on both the environment and the community.
