On October 3, 2024, as part of the G20 Energy Ministers Meeting, the event “Biofuels for Decarbonization in the Transport Sector” brought together experts from both the public and private sectors to discuss the advances and challenges in implementing biofuels for a sustainable energy transition. Sector leaders shared insights on environmental impact, economic benefits, and the future of biofuels in the automotive and aviation industries.
Luis Fernando Salazar Rosas, Executive Director of the Latin American Sugar Producers Union (UNALA), moderated the participation of Rafael Chang, CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation for Latin America and the Caribbean. Chang emphasized the crucial role of biofuels in automotive decarbonization, explaining how the use of these renewable fuels is essential for reducing carbon emissions and advancing toward a cleaner future.
The event was organized by CPBIO, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and UNALA, with support from UNICA, UNEM, and APROBIO, underscoring the global commitment to transition toward more sustainable energy sources.
